Upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, proceed through immigration formalities, reclaim luggage and complete customs procedures. Experience a warm welcome and reception as you exit the airport and meet our guide who will transfer you to your hotel in our private air-conditioned vehicle. As you make your way from the airport to the hotel, enjoy an introductory expose on Accra, the vibrant capital city of Ghana. Visit the famous Oxford Street for a taste of the daily life of the locals and enjoy the sounds, negotiation for items and get some colourful fabrics for your custom-made African clothing. Enjoy a refreshing drink upon arrival at the hotel This evening a dressmaker will visit you at the hotel to take the measurements of those who will be interested in making tailor-made African clothing.
Following a refreshing night and a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, you will be engaged in an introductory orientation to get you started. Followed by a panoramic tour of Accra, where you explore the history of the life of the famous Pan-Africanist, W.E.B DuBois at his original home in Ghana, now turned into a museum. Visit the newly refurbished Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the final resting place of the first president of Ghana. You will also have the chance to see the Independence Square (Black Star Square), a symbol of Ghana’s Independence and the Christianborg Castle . There is the opportunity to braid your hair at a carefully selected local hair saloon (Optional Activity). There is a welcome dinner with traditional entertainment at a local restaurant this evening. Right after your sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, we check-out of the hotel and head further east to Akosombo staying at the BridgeView delicately hemmed in by the verdant Akosombo mountains and surrounded by the expanse of one of the largest man-made lakes in the world; a world away from the bustling streets of Accra. En-route, make a detour to visit the Cedi Bead Factory, a treasure trove of colorful beads, skilled artisans and rich cultural heritage. Watch the skilled artisans create intricate beads using traditional techniques and marvel at the stunning array of beads in various colors, shapes and designs. You can purchase some of the unique hand-made crafted beads made from broken glasses and some decorated with beautiful ornaments and accessories for home decor. Continue to Akosombo for the night. Arrival at your resort, check-in and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Meal (s) included: Breakfast
Waking up refreshed and pumped up, enjoy a sumptuous breakfast while taking in the stunning and greenery landscape of your surroundings. Enjoy a leisurely morning with a sumptuous breakfast right along the serene Volta Lake. Later in the day, you will embark on a spectacular boat cruise taking you on the Lake Volta and view the Adomi Bridge. Meal (s) included: Breakfast
After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and proceed to the cultural heartbeat of Ghana, Kumasi. Enjoy a drive through rolling hills, small local markets and quaint villages anticipating the rich history, warm hospitality and exciting experiences awaiting us in Kumasi you in Kumasi. On the outskirts of Kumasi, visit the Besease Shrine, a traditional sacred site located in the Ejisu-Juaben District. This shrine is one of the long-standing traditional worship sites which showcase Ashanti culture, traditions, and history. You will be transferred to your hotel for the night. You may choose to enjoy night life of Kumasi at the Milan Lounge. Meal (s) included: Breakfast
After a good breakfast at the hotel, we set out for a cultural adventure of Kumasi and its surrounding lush countryside. You will have the opportunity to participate in an Ashanti naming ceremony where you are adorned in colorful Kente fabrics and beads. You will receive a local Ghanaian name and a certificate of authentication. We continue on a visit to visit the Manhyia Palace Museum, the official residence of the Ashanti King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Adanwomase, the famous Kente village and see how these beautiful traditional clothes of the Ashantis are carefully woven on traditional looms. Return to the hotel to freshen up before you experience a night life of Kumasi. Meal (s) included: Breakfast
Following a restful night and breakfast, we check out of the hotel for a drive to Elmina, a significant town in the history of the transatlantic slave trade. Make a stop at Assin Manso, where you see, touch and connect with the ancestral river where African ancestors took their last bath prior to being transferred to the Cape Castle and off the shores of Africa to the Americas and the Caribbeans. A perfect time to reflect on the poignant history of the Transatlantic slave trade at the Assin Manso Slave River also known as “Donkor Nsuo” and pay respects to the ancestors. On arrival in Elmina, drive through the fishing township and see how fishermen are happily bringing their day’s catch to the shore and the market women engages in exciting conversations as they sell their wares. Enjoy the morning at leisure. At mid-morning, set out to Cape Coast to visit the World's UNESCO Heritage site. Explore the castle’s eerie dungeons, cramped slave quarters and haunting memorials. This is a somber reminder of the past and a symbol of resilience and hope for a better future. You will then be transferred to your beachfront resort for the night. We return to the resort and enjoy the rest of the day sunbathing along the pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean before this evening’s Reverential night ceremony. This is a solemn evening of reflection, remembrance and reconciliation, honoring the ancestors of the transatlantic slave trade. There will be candlelit processions, cultural performances and traditional rituals. Meal (s) included: Breakfast
After a restful night and a sumptuous breakfast, we check-out of the hotel and head back to Accra. We will make a detour to Assin Manso Slave River Site to participate in today’s Emancipation day activities. You will witness traditional drumming and cultural performances, re-enactment of the slave route, wreath-laying ceremony at the Slave River (Donkor Nsuo), traditional rituals and libation pouring as well as Emancipation declaration reading. We continue to Accra, arriving in time to freshen up before we enjoy a farewell dinner (at your own account) and nightlife of Accra. This will be a great opportunity to unwind, reminisce on your experience so far from the trip. Meal (s) included: Breakfast, Dinner
